The 10 Year Strategic Direction is based on consultations with the ten (10) First Nation Chiefs, Community Care Programs, the Weechi-it-te-win Board of Directors, and the staff. As such, the following was determined:
Weechi-it-te-win Family Services will be a smaller organization, located in a new building that provides an emotionally safe space for the entire community, staffed by a highly skilled team with specialized areas of expertise.
WFS will be recognized internationally as a Centre of Excellence in Indigenous Child Welfare practice. WFS will have built strong, collaborative relationships with the each of the ten member First Nations. This will have been achieved through recognizing each First Nation's uniqueness, actively supporting their capacity building process and respecting a wide range of ceremonies and traditions.
WFS will promote an emphasis on prevention-oriented programming, family treatment, healing and wellness meant to maintain and enrich each community, built on our original Anishinaabe Teachings.
WFS will be strongly lobbying government so funding is based on preventing children from coming into care, supporting a holistic view with the child at the center, and recognizing the uniqueness of our original child rearing ways, our family systems and Nationhood.
WFS will be a macro level organization playing the following roles and having the following functions:
